Naples, the capital of the Campania region, is the largest and the most visited among the cities of Southern Italy. The historic centre of Naples preserves historical and artistic treasures of such importance that has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Walking through the picturesque streets of the centre you can cross twenty centuries of history, admiring monuments of different styles and periods: the ruins of the Greek and Roman colonies, visitable in the Museums and in the archaeological areas such as San Lorenzo Maggiore; the Cathedral, which houses the famous Chapel of San Gennaro (the saint patron of the city), and the Castel dell’Ovo; the Royal Palace, which dominates the Piazza del Plebiscito, and various other monuments and attractions such as the Monastery of Santa Chiara and the Castel Nuovo, also called "Maschio Angioino".
