The allure of Lazio is often overshadowed by the glorious Rome but this region has much to offer as well: a treasure trove filled with art, culture, tradition, history and fine gastronomy that we will uncover during this 6 Days Slow Food tour of Lazio.
Day: Arrival, Rome
Check into your Hotel in Rome. Move on to the Ristorante Grappolo d’Oro for a delectable welcome dinner filled with authentic local cuisine and Slow Food Presidia products from Lazio.
Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Rome
Dedicate the entire day to discover the eternal city of Rome. We have organized for you a food and cultural walking tour, to give you a first glimpse of the Eternal city, taking you off the tourist path. We will tour a local market, giving you the chance to learn all the secrets of Italian cuisine with a cooking lesson.
You will then have the time to discover all the major sights of Rome, like Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Pantheon, St. Peter’s Basilica and Piazza Navona. Contact us if you wish to add a guided tour to your experience.
Return to your hotel and retire for the night.
Day 3: Rome
Head down for a sampling of some famous produce from the Lazio region at the new Eataly store. The large four-level store covers a vast area of 17,000 square metres, 60% of which dedicated to retailing food, the rest catered to education with 23 bars and restaurants, 40 food preparation demonstration areas and 8 lecture halls.
Spend the afternoon at leisure. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 4: The Castelli Romani: Castel Gandolfo, the Albano Lake, Genzano, Frascati
Visit the Castelli Romani area in the morning. Arrive at Genzano and consider stopping at a local bakery and try out the renowned Pizza Bianca (white pizza bread).
Take a guided tour around the Azienda Agricola Le Rose farm and sample their finest wines perfectly complemented by some of the delightful local produce. Marvel at the elegant Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence situated on the shores of the Albano Lake; visit the historical centre and take a relaxing stroll along the lake’s shore.
Journey on to Frascati and visit the beautiful, ancient city centre. Have a delectable traditional dinner at Cantina Bucciarelli, serving regional delicacies complemented with excellent Lazio wines. There will also be a sampling of traditional delights.
Return to the hotel an overnight stay.
Day 5: Sabina Area: Farfa, Castelnuovo di Farfa, Rieti
Depart to the heart of Sabina Area in the morning. Along the way, visit the Abbey of Farfa, a place full of peacefulness and simplicity, founded by the Benedectine monks.
You will then continue toward Castelnuovo di Farfa, where you will visit "Il Cervo Rampante" farm, tasting the jams paired with cheeses all locally produced, in addition to olive oil and to a local light lunch.
We then suggest passing by Rieti, the ancient city of the Sabines.
Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 6: Departure
After 6 splendid days across the Lazio region, it is time to leave!
