Genoa, capital of Liguria, has a history and a charm related to seafaring and trade, and therefore took part in the so-called "industrial triangle" of Milan-Turin-Genoa, due to the importance of its port, which is still the largest and most important in Italy, and the second in the Mediterranean.
For this role, Genoa has been often named with such names as "La Superba" and "The Dominant". And in 2004 the city was declared the European Capital of Culture for its important cultural heritage, from art to literature, from music to cuisine.
