Guided Tour of Alberobello
Alberobello was a forestry area covered with beautiful ancient oaks and beech trees. Alberobello derived its name from these beautiful trees. Due to the fertile soil, it was soon used for agricultural activities. During the 14th century, people began to build a temporary settlement. Our guide will tell the history and folklore traditions of Alberobello and how this commune came about. As we tour along the narrow passages, we will also visit the only trullo form church, Sant’Antonio. From the bell tower, we will cherish and admire the breath-taking panoramic view of the Apulian region and the Adriatic Sea.
UNESCO preserved trulli
Trulli was first thought to have existed during the prehistoric time. However, the oldest form of trullo is found in Alberobello , dating back to the 14th century. The white-washed limestone houses with cone-shaped roof are amongst the ancient dwellings that still survive to this day. Trulli was constructed as a temporary shelter because of a tax feud between the governors. Now, it is used as permanent residents even some are converted to hotel usage. Our expert guide will show you the construction methods of a trullo to show you how it was during the Middle Ages.
