The Pantheon of Venice
Get ready to start this tour, which will show you some of the most beautiful places of Venice. The first stop will be a visit to the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, one of the medieval religious buildings more impressive of Venice, together with the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, considered the Pantheon of Venice, because of the high number of Venetian doges buried there, and rising in the Sestriere di Castello.Partly realized in gothic style, it holds in the inside several sepulchers and two altars, one on each side, dedicated to Santa Caterina da Siena and to San Giuseppe.
The “Chiesa dei Miracoli”
Built in the Cannareggio Sestriere, the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli has a particular history. In the XV century, there was a painting considered miraculous from the inhabitants of the city, that entrusted it to realize graces. It then seemed necessary to give the right homage to the Painting of the Virgin, building for it a structure adequate to its miracles. A wonder of Renaissance art, a symbol of the greatness of a flourishing and powerful Venice.
The “Merchant of Venice”
Marco Polo is the well-known merchant who went through the Silk Road. This famous road, passing through Anatolia and Armenia, lead him to ancient Beijing. His house and the Milion Court used to locate in the area now close the San Giovanni Crisostomo Church. The building was a typical Venetian fondaco-house, both the house and the warehouse of a merchant, with access to the canal. A lot of artifacts were found there, ranging from Byzantine ceramics to bottles and artifacts in glass.The last stop of this tour will be a special visit to the Polo’s residence, along with historic fragments and remains, looking for the clues of a glorious past.
