The hill of the Sella del Diavolo takes its name (“Devil’s Saddle” in English) from an ancient legend, according to which the devils, led by Lucifer, were so impressed by the beauty of the Gulf of Cagliari that they tried to seize it.
But God, sent therefore his troops of angels - commanded by the Archangel Michael. During the battle above the Gulf, Lucifer was thrown from his horse, losing his saddle, and falling from the sky he landed on the promontory, giving it its current, unique shape.
This legendary battle is also the reason for the name of the Cagliari’s Gulf, known as the Gulf of Angels.
