Guided small group excursion to Mount Etna from Catania with cable car ride included

A memorable day on the most active volcano of Europe, climbing the peak, taking a ride with the cable car.

With this small group tour you will have the opportunity to explore one of the most spectacular sceneries in Europe. You will cross different heights of Europe's highest volcano, enjoying incredible views, and followed by our volcanological guide you’ll discover its structure and morphology. Climbing Etna's walls can be an energy-consuming activity, but don't worry, at Rifugio La Sapienza you will know how to refresh yourself with typical Sicilian specialties.

A nice start with the cable car ride

The excitement for a day trip starts from the car travel, and this time you'll be carried by a snug minivan that will get you to the destination. By leaving Catania you’ll see how the environment that surrounds you starts to change the more you get inside the Etna’s territory. You’ll  see the little hamlets and beautiful views, accompanied by an expert local guide and driver, and in half an hour you’ll arrive at the Rifugio La Sapienza at 1,910 meters above the sea level, where the able car is ready to take you up to the top of the volcano.

Higher and higher at 2001’s craters and Valle del Bove

Cable car is ready to go! It will transfer you from the rifugio up to 2,500 meters where you’ll start the real trek. The walking path includes stops at the famous craters generated in 2001, when an eccentric eruption lasting almost an entire month modified the structure of the mount. Going higher and higher you’ll meet Valle del Bove, with the dazzling depression that dates back 64 000 years ago. This is considered the best panoramic view on the mountain , at the dizzying height of 2,750 meters, so it’s the best time for you to grab your trip mates and take some memorable pictures and create lifetime memories.

Last stop at Cisternazza

Heading to the last halt of this day trip tour, you’ll be visiting various summit craters which are always active, emitting gasses and water vapor. During the last hour you’ll be visiting another crater depression called the Cisternazza, created by the volcano’s activity in 1792, and then you’ll be ready to descend the mountain and get to the Rifugio, where you are free to taste typical local products and enjoy an exquisite lunch
