Journey towards the glorious medieval village of Cortona

Depart the sprawling cosmopolitan city of Rome and head north towards the stunning medieval town of Cortona, passing by the beautiful Tiber Valley along the way. Perched atop a hill 600m above sea level, Cortona retains much of its original medieval charm and a treasure trove consisting of many Etruscan artefacts in the surrounding archaeological sites. This idyllic village has recently soared in popularity as tourists flock in from every part of the world, due to it being the film set for both Oscar-winning film “La Vita è Bella” (Life is Beautiful) and Frances Mayes’s “Under the Tuscan Sun”.

Marvel at the mystical medieval towns of Cortona and Montepulciano

Cortona may be a small town, but it boasts many historic gems. Take a relaxing walk through the city center, strolling along its characteristic streets and taking in the serene ambience of this enchanting town. Take a scenic drive along the breathtaking shoreline of Lake Trasimeno and head towards an authentic countryside restaurant for a delectable lunch. After lunch, we will drive through the pastoral rolling hills of the Chianti Region towards the Renaissance hill town of Montepulciano in Southern Tuscany. Montepulciano is filled with many grandeur Renaissance palaces, elegant churches, manicured squares and most importantly, eye-popping panoramic views of its surrounding Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana valleys.

Embark on an exciting winery tour and tasting session

Tuscany’s famous “Vino Nobile” has successfully earned a place for this city on the world wine map. “Vino Nobile” is an intense ruby red wine dating back to early Etruscan times and one of the favourites among the local Sienese aristocracy in the 15th century. We will be visiting one of the oldest vineyards producing this DOCG classified wine, with its famous cellars carved out of tufo rock. The professional winemakers will be shedding some valuable insights and secrets of its production, and you will be able to indulge in a tasting session of this award-winning wine. As we come to an end of our unforgettable excursion at approximately 7-8pm, we will depart towards our hotel in Rome for an overnight stay.
