The 6-day trip to Apulia and Amalfi Coast departing from Rome is what you need to eXPerience if you are the kind of person who loves exploring fascinating sites before they get full of tourists from all parts of the world. The trip will last 6 days, but only the memories you acumulate during the trip will be enough to remain with you for the rest of your life.
Day 1: Rome - Naples - Pompeii - Sorrento
Depart from Rome and arrive to Naples. Here, join a walk to discover the Royal Palace, the Gallery of Umberto I, the Piazza del Plebiscito, the San Carlo Opera House during your free time. Then you will enjoy a typical lunch.
On your way to Pompeii, make a quick stop at a coral and cameo factory: this interesting aside is a great place to buy some souvenirs! Then, you will continue on to the ruins of Pompeii, an ancient village tragically buried in 79 B.C.E. by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
In the evening, progress to the hotel in Sorrento. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Sorrento - Capri - Sorrento
Eat breakfast before catching the ferry to the famed Island of Capri. Admire the grand coastal landscape and tranquil Tyrrhenian Sea during your ride. Arrive at the port of Marina Grande and embark on an adventure to the enchanting Blue Grotto (weather and sea conditions permitting), an exotic sea cave.
Later, arrive to Anacapri, a high vantage point with equally stunning vistas. After lunch in a local restaurant, return to the Marina Grande and take the ferry back to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Sorrento - Positano - Amalfi - Salerno area
After breakfast, depart to stroll through Sorrentine Coast. Join your free time in Positano (a lively fishing village and tourist enclave tucked in between the mountains and the sea) and Amalfi (a UNESCO World Heritage Site and capital of an ancient maritime republic). Time at leisure to discover these cities and lunch (NOT included).
Arrive in Salerno area for check-in, dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Salerno area - Matera - Alberobello
After breakfast, arrive to beautiful Matera, known by its "Sassi", houses built on the stone. You will discover a city where time seems to have stopped with its aristocratic buildings and the stone churches. Matera has been proclaimed European City of Culture in 2019.
After free time for lunch (NOT included), proceed to Alberobello, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and taste the local olive oil from Apulia. Check-in and free time for dinner (NOT included). Overnight.
Day 5: Alberobello - Lecce - Ostuni - Alberobello
After breakfast, join a guided tour to discover Lecce, the pearl of Apulia's baroque architecture. Join also free time for lunch (NOT included).
Then proceed to Ostuni, also known as the "white city" and visit to places such as the Palazzo Vescovile, Saint Horace and the imposing Gothic style Cathedral. Upon arrival, have a ride in an Ape Calessino, a typical three-wheel vehicle.
At the end of the day, return to the hotel and overnight (dinner is NOT included).
Day 6: Alberobello - Bari - Benevento - Rome
After breakfast, arrive in Bari: join your free time to visit to the Basilica of San Nicola and the beautiful Cathedral of San Sabino, two places that show the undeniable architectural beauty that Apulia has to offer. Have a taste of typical products! This day lunch is NOT included.
Proceed to Benevento and join a stop in a local factory, where the famous Strega liquer is produced.
Then depart to Rome.
