The Svevo Castle and the Cathedral

Destination of pilgrims, merchants and crusaders, Trani, overlooking the crystal waters of the Adriatic Sea, is one of the must-see places in Puglia. Rich in history and charm, the city will fascinate you from the moment you start your tour by visiting the Swabian Castle and the imposing Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino.
The first is a monumental building whose foundations sink into the sea. Built in 1233 by Frederick II of Swabia, the fortress has a square floorplan reinforced by four defensive towers that provides it a majestic aspect. It was often used by the son of Federico, Manfredi, and it still shows the signs of the succession of numerous historical periods. When lapped by the waves of the sea, the Castle offers an unparalleled spectacle to those who observe it.
On the opposite side from the Castle, you will admire accompanied by an expert local guide, the famous and imposing city Cathedral dedicated to San Nicola Pellegrino. The first thing you notice when observing it is its position by the sea in a place where you could find a lighthouse, the church symbolically infact represents a symbolic lighthouse to guide all humanity. Imposing and elegant it is a very fine example of Apulian Romanesque. Another prominent element is the contrast between the blue of the sky and the sea and the rosy color of the stone used for the construction of the Cathedral: it is limestone tuff extracted from the quarries surrounding the city. Severely tampered with in the 19th century, thanks to a skilful restoration, it has returned to its original splendor. Its beauty will conquer you!

Giudecca, The Jewish district

The tour will continue through the characteristic streets that lead to the historic center of Trani, where Giudecca is located, the Jewish quarter that developed thanks to the encouragement of Federico II who supported him by financing the creation of numerous synagogues that still exist today. Immerse yourself in history and let yourself be inspired by one of the characteristic neighborhoods of the city, full of energy and vitality, once the focus of the city economy and today a symbol of peaceful coexistence between different cultures.
Thanks to this fantastic tour you will have the opportunity to admire the Jewish tradition that is still preserved within the walls of the neighborhood. You will also visit the synagogue, if ti is open.

The Port of Trani

The port, symbol of this city, emphasizes its seafaring vocation and strengthens the bond that binds it to the sea, to the navigation and the art of fishing. This place, privileged access point to the city, was fundamental for commercial and cultural development: commercial exchanges in fact enriched the city and allowed it to expand urbanistically. From here also left the soldiers headed for the Holy Land to fight the crusades. The port is still a place full of scents, flavors and traditions, walking through its streets with your guide, you will admire ancient and modern fishing boats and breathe the sweet sea breeze while relaxing. The tour will end with olive oil tasting.
