Guided tour of Orvieto with a private guide

Three hours private tour to discover the historic center of Orvieto, one of the oldest cities of Italy. Orvieto was certainly a major centre of Etruscan civilization; the archaeological museum infact houses some of the Etruscan artifacts that have been recovered in the immediate neighbourhood.

Orvieto Cathedral

You will meet your private guide in the centre of Orvieto, to start your private tour of this incredible city. An unmissable stop will for sure be the Cathedral, a colorful gothic art example, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. The facade is decorated with mosaics, the interior of the cathedral is adorned with important works, including the famous frescoes by Luca Signorelli and the Reliquary of the Corporal.

The Palace of the Pops

At the rear of the cathedral are the Palaces of the Popes, austere buildings entitled to Urban IV, Martin IV, Boniface VIII. The last one, also known as Palazzo Soliano, was built by Boniface VIII as a sign of gratitude of Orvieto towards him, who had delivered them from the interdict. You will have time to ask your guide as many questions you may have about local history, culture and art.

San Patrick's well

Leaving the Cathedral area, you can immerse yourself in the timeless atmosphere of the Underground City, entirely carved out of the cavities dug by the inhabitants over the centuries, rich in wells and caves. The most famous is the St. Patrick's Well, an extraordinary work of civil engineering excavated by order of Clement VII who found his refuge in Orvieto during the sack of Rome in 1527.
