Guided tour to Porta Palazzo Market with Tastings

Turin has one of the largest open air markets in the world - the Porta Palazzo Market. On this day tour you will weave through the market and explore some food stalls where you can sample and taste some of the traditional local produce. Later you will visit the ancient market square of Piazza Palazzo di Citta, where you can admire the Roman architectural buildings. The tour will end in the Roman Quarter, where you will see the Roman ruins of the northern gate - Porta Palatina.

Porta Palazzo Market

The Porta Palazzo Market is located in Piazza della Repubblica and is known to be the largest open air market in Europe with around 800 stalls. On this guided tour, you will stroll around the market, which is separated into sections such as organic food, the fish market, clothing and general food markets. Porta Palazzo market attracts huge crowds, not only tourists but many of the locals from Turin and the surrounding suburbs. Turin is the city of gianduja and bagna cauda, and you will have the opportunity to discover these traditional local products in the tasting session.

Piazza Palazzo di Citta

You will next visit the grand Piazza Palazzo di Citta, best viewed from the Municipal Council rooftop. The urbanistic square was designed by architect Benedetto Alfieri in the 16th century. Piazza Palazzo di Citta was specifically designed to highlight the town hall building. The square has been renewed and regenerated continuously over time and this can be seen in the varying architecture, for example the façade and statues sculptured by the 19th century Lorenzo Lombardi and Ferdinando Bonsignore.

Roman Quarter

The ancient Roman ruins in the Quadrilatero Romano - the Roman Quarter - can still be viewed to this day. It was a part of the Porta Palatina northern gate of Turin. The surprising artistic atmosphere of the quarter can be seen through the graffiti and street art, narrow pathways and streets, and plenty of indie stores and restaurants.
