We will also enter into a trullo, one of the oldest forms of houses in the Apulian region to learn of its construction methods. After which, we will head towards the trullo church of Sant’ Antonio.

The historical town of Alberobello

Visiting the historical town of Alberobello will be an unusual eXPerience and perhaps the highlight of your vacation in Italy. Alberobello was first discovered in the Middle Ages. It was once an area of oak and beeches forestry, from where the name of the town was derived from.
Because of its fertile soil and landscape, agricultural activities were performed and led to a little settlement. However, during the 14th century, there was a feud about taxation. The famous UNESCO Trulli

Trullo was believed to have existed in the prehistoric age. However, it is known that the oldest trulli is at Alberobello, dating back to the 14th century. These white-washed conical shaped roof dwellings were first intended to be a temporary shelter but soon afterward, it became a permanent home.
Alberobello residents boast that they are one of the few communities that still lives in ancient houses. Our expert guide will re-tell the story of these ancient trulli and how they came into being. You will also learn the social status of these trulli as well as their construction methods.

The preserved Trullo Church of Sant’Antonio

Sant’ Antonio is known to be only church that is still preserved in trullo form. Its monumental entrance with its overarching façade of three wings on the rose window over the staircase presents a wonderful architecture and masonry skills. The church is in Greek cross plan with its lateral chapel and a bell tower.
