With us, you will have the best of the Venetian specialities by venturing into the heart of Venice's food scene, the Rialto Fish, Fruit and Vegetable Markets, crossing from the ornate footbridge Rialto Bridge (Ponte Rialto) over the Grand Canal reaching Cannareggio by gondola.
Venetian Fresh Market
Join a small culinary tour with no more than 12 participants, to the heart of Venice's food scene at Rialto Fruit and Vegetable Market and the Rialto Fish Market. As you peruse the overflowing aisles, your expert Venetian guide will explain how the ancient trade routes and a strong maritime history have shaped the diets of Venetians; and how they still get the freshest fish from the Mediterranean. Along the way, we will stop at some of the most famous bars in Venice to have a glass of local wine and a traditional cicchetto. Cicchetti are Venice's answer to the Spanish tapas, and are composed by bread with delicious toppings, as well as by Venetian Panini (sandwiches).
Venice Gondola Ride
After talking food for so much time, we will embark for a traditional gondola ride in the Grand Canal, taking us from Rialto to Cannareggio, the old Jewish Getto of Venice. Venetian ships used to be the main source in exporting Eastern spices to Europe so it's of no surprise that they have made a rich contribution to the city's cuisine. We will definitely sample some sumptuous local wine, prosecco or traditional spritz (an Italian drink perfect for the happy hour), together with some fritti (fried vegetables and fish, often battered), that we will eat on the go, heading to our next stop.
A traditional Italian Lunch
At this point, we will stop in a traditional Venetian neighborhood trattoria, where you will taste their pasta specialty of the day. Together with the pasta, you will have a glass of local wine.
With an intimate group of no larger than 12 people, we don't just want you to eat well for a day; we want to show you how to eat like a Venetian for your entire stay.
