Small Group Tour to visit Herculaneum and Pompeii, Departing from Sorrento

Do not miss the chance to explore two of the most famous archaeological sites in Italy: Ercolano and Pompeii, with this day tour departing from Sorrento.

Leave from Sorrento to discover the heritage of two ancient cities
Visit Ercolano, a pure beauty among the cities of Campania
Discover the excavations of Ercolano, together with a professional guide
Taste an amazing lunch, according to the traditions of Campania, in the city of Pompeii
Dig into Pompeii’s ancient archaeological sites, unique and fascinating

This small group tour will begin in Sorrento, where a luxury minibus will be waiting for you to start your discovery of two wonderful Italian realities, situated in Campania, one of its most beautiful regions. We are referring to two of the most popular archaeological sites in the whole world: Ercolano and Pompeii.

Begin your tour with Ercolano

As soon as you are ready, a luxury minibus will drive you from Sorrento to Ercolano, where an expert guide will lead you through a two-hour visit of this archaeological site. Ercolano, that legends say was founded by Ercole, and that has been destroyed by the 79 D.C. eruption, has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Going through its excavations is an experience that will make you live the glory of the past.

Proceed with Pompeii

After having walked through the wonderful Ercolano, get ready to be amazed again by the second stop of your tour: Pompeii. Here, before beginning your guided tour through the wonders of the ancient city, you will taste a delicious lunch composed by all the exquisiteness of the Campania tradition. Among these, you will find caprese (the typical dish made by mozzarella and fresh tomatoes), pizza or pasta, fries, ice cream, local wine and, to conclude, an inimitable Italian espresso. After this typical Italian experience, you can’t miss a walk through the excavations, surrounded by ancient villas, buildings, temples, the amphitheatre, and the thermal baths of Pompeii. An unforgettable experience!

The Villa of the Mysteries

Before heading back to Sorrento, this Small Group Tour has another surprise waiting for you: a guided visit into the Villa of the Mysteries, a suburban villa whose construction dates back to the Roman Era. It is situated at a small distance from Pompeii’s entrance walls, and was buried by the Mount Vesuvius eruption as well. It has a rustic, residential style, and is rich of frescoes representing mystic rituals, in addition to paintings in red mainly showing bridal scenes and religious rituals. Diving into these mysteries is a unique experience that makes ancient customs come back to life.

Amazing tour!

We were picked up in Sorrento by our guide and driven to Pompeii, We purchased the tickets and headphones and got into Pompeii very quickly. It was quite crowded but our guide was able to take us to places quickly without the crowds. It is a huge site so it was lovely to have a guide and then you can take yourself back again and wander round at your own time. We then had a delicious lunch in a restaurant outside the ruins. We then went back in the miini bus to Herculaneum. These ruins are much smaller and less crowded. We had a lovely time going round them and learning its history. Back into the bus to Sorrento.A nice drive along the coast. A very good day.

Great tour with a great guide

It was an incredibly hot day and we spent most of it under the sun. Despite this, me and my partner will never forget it. Lia, our tour guide, was amazing. She has entertained us all day, both on the bus and during the walking visits. Everything was meticulously covered, her English was excellent, even managing to translate the Neapolitan's typical sense of humour very effectively. What I believe made the difference during this trip, was Lia's established knowledge of these sites and their history. Lia has been able not just to give us an incredibly accurate and detailed list of facts, but she tickled our imagination by including characters into her stories. Real people from 2000 years ago seemed to be around us, attending to their daily routines: the wine shop owner who slept upstairs, the refreshment stop points scattered around the streets, the women gossiping about their bad husbands in the spa, the rich home owners wanting to retire in the afternoon for a nap at the back of the house, far from the hustle and bustle of the frenetic front room where the slaves would be at work. We were accurately informed about dates, locations, what happened in 79 ad during the eruption, daily life customs, architecture, art and more. I will never forget this day, I always wanted to visit Pompei and I couldn't have had a better guide. Grazie Lia!!
